SCP-[...] refers to a recurring anomalous phenomenon causing a significant decline in empathy among the general population, primarily affecting white men and individuals resistant to new experiences. This phenomenon, dubbed the "Death of Empathy," has occurred multiple times throughout history and is believed to be responsible for various societal shifts, including the rise of far-right ideologies, the Holocaust, and recent instances of social and political unrest.
Before the activation of SCP-[...], individuals exhibit normal levels of empathy, often leading to compassionate actions such as providing aid to migrants. However, once SCP-[...] takes effect, empathy diminishes, resulting in callous behavior, as individuals become indifferent to the struggles of others.
SCP-[...]'s effects are not uniformly distributed, disproportionately impacting the aforementioned demographic groups. Marginalized communities often remain unaffected, retaining their capacity for empathy. This anomaly poses a significant threat to global stability, as the loss of empathy can lead to widespread social and political upheaval.
Research indicates that SCP-[...]'s origins can be traced back to the Global North, particularly the United States and Western Europe. The Foundation is currently studying historical patterns to predict and prevent future occurrences, as well as developing countermeasures to restore empathy in affected populations.
